VOICE for Dementia Care, a tech-enabled care management solution, provides professional coaching and advice for family caregivers, guided by tailored protocols and supported with a collaboration platform, Vela. The pilot showed a significant reduction in caregiver burden and improvement in caregiver confidence and activation, which contributed to declines in hospitalizations and emergency department visits for persons diagnosed with dementia.
The study, a collaboration between Seniorlink and health and aging services expert Anne Tumlinson, examined data from almost 2,000 Seniorlink patients in Massachusetts and Indiana and compared it to the national benchmark Medicare Current Beneficiaries Survey (MCBS). In addition to better patient outcomes, the study found that when tech-enabled clinical teams and family caregivers collaborate, the healthcare system could save $2.8 million annually for every 1,000 highly complex patients as a result of reduced hospitalizations and ER visits.
